Vijay Devarakonda

Vijay Sai Devarakonda is an Indian film actor for his works in Telugu cinema. Vijay was born on 9th May 1989 in Hyderabad Telangana. Vijay made his film debut in 2011 with Ravi Babu’s romantic comedy Nuvvila (2011).

Vijay made his early education from Eton Temple High School in Saroornagar, Hyderabad before moving to Sri Sathya Sai Higher Secondary school in Puttaparthi. Away from home and family, Devarakonda spent most of his formative years in this school. Upon completing his education, he then moved back to Hyderabad where he continued his studies from Little Flower Junior College. Graduating from there Devarakonda next enrolled at Badruka College of Commerce, from where he received his Bachelor of Commerce Degree.

Vijay gained stardom by playing the lead role in the 2016 blockbuster romantic comedy Pelli Choopulu, which won the National Filmfare award for Best Film. Vijay Sai Devarakonda is one of the most talented and dynamic actors of the Telugu Film Industry with acting in his blood, his father Devarakonda Govardhan Rao being an actor, it was natural for Vijay to pursue acting. He started with a brief stint in a theatre group “Sutradhar” that was essentially based out of Hyderabad and soon followed it with a 4-month workshop. The workshop opened the doors of opportunity for young Vijay who founds his hands full with several plays in the Hyderabad theatre circuit. Vijay soon ventured into cinema.

To start with, he found minor role in Sekhar kammula’s “Life is Beautiful”. It was while doing the Kammula’s film that Devarakonda was first introduced to Nag Ashwin, assistant director then, upon seeing his potential, Ashwin cast him for the 2015 movie ‘Yevade Subramanyam’ along side with Natural star Nani. The film was a commercial success and established Devarakonda’s career as an actor.

Vijay’s first lead role was in Pelli Choopulu, a romantic coming-of-age entertainer directed by Tharun Bhascker Dhaassyam with Ritu Varma as the female lead. The film went on to be commercially successful and won the Best Feature Film in Telugu at the 64th National Film Awards as well as the Filmfare Awards for Best Film-Telugu. He then starred in a masala entertainer, Dwaraka in 2017. It opened to mixed to negative reviews and flopped at the Box-office. His next film Arjun Reddy received praise and criticism a like for being very bold and radical. Vijay as a self-destructive, short tempered and alcoholic surgeon received critical acclaim, which led to him winning numerous awards including the Film Fare for Best Actor. Devarakonda’s next release in 2018 was ‘Geetha Arts’ romantic comedy Geetha Govindam and next was ‘UV Creations’ supernatural comedy thriller Taxiwala in which Vijay stumbles upon a possessed car opposite Malavika Nair.

Vijay placed 72nd in the Forbes India Celebrity 100 list 2018.
