The worldwide increased usage of APIs is no joke; we’re seriously growing insanely with the way we develop and integrate APIs on a daily basis. For a 10-billion-dollar market and growing, here are several things that are still going wrong.
When I interact with teammates and other people from the same line of work, I see that people are less likely to adapt to new ways of working unless shown the benefits. This blog will help you optimize how you handle your APIs and will definitely reduce the additional labour and costs you often miss.
Most teams aren’t even curious to know how many APIs do they have?
How many of them are actually usable, and how many of them need upgrades?
What do teams struggle with?
With agile methodologies, teams are pushed to work under shorter deadlines, which creates room for error, though it leads to increased deployments, and also increases rollbacks.
Here’s why:
- Poor documentation:
Developers, testers, or even QAs need context. With short deadlines, it’s hard to connect the dots. When teams fail to write basic and advanced documentation and a new member with no background intel tries to make updates, they might do more harm than good.
This brings down development and deployment speed much more often than you might assume.

API testing for me was not about locking systems in place. It’s about giving teams the freedom to change, scale, and ship without breaking what already works. When testing becomes part of how decisions are made based on real outcomes, results become achievable and so it feels good that efforts are not gone in vain.
Performance Is Not a One-Time Fix
Another critical lesson is that performance tuning is not a phase—it’s continuous.
By tying performance metrics directly to functional tests and real traffic simulations, teams were able to validate changes before rollout. This reduced rollback frequency and gave engineers confidence to move faster. Performance testing stopped being something “done later” and became part of everyday development decisions.
While this all seems as a easy fix, how to implement changes safely
There are many factors at play when you decide to change what’s not working for you, and without a structured framework within the organization, transitioning to a new workflow can be a headache and only possible via a staged migration. Steps include-
- The first step is recognizing that your current API testing approach is no longer sufficient. This might show up as recurring production issues, slow releases, poor visibility into failures, or constant firefighting around performance and rate limits.
- Use data to clearly define where the gaps are and why existing methods are falling short.
- Before rolling out changes broadly, teams should run pilot test phases in isolated test or staging environments. This allows them to validate whether a new tool or workflow genuinely simplifies testing, improves coverage, or reduces effort—without putting production stability at risk.
- Tool adoption often fails because it solves theoretical problems rather than real ones. To avoid this, teams should collaborate across QA, development, and platform groups to create a shared pain-point checklist.
