Faf Du Plessis

Francois Faf du Plessis was born on 13th July 1984 in Pretoria, Transvaal Province, South Africa. Faf du Plessis is a South African international cricketer and the current captain of the South African National team across all formats.

Faf du Plessis is a right handed middle order batsman, du Plessis has played South African domestic cricket for Northerns and Titans, as well as matches for Lancashire, The Chennai Super Kings, The Rising Pune Supergiant and the Melbourne Renegades.

Du Plessis took test Captaincy in December 2016 and assumed full time Captaincy in all the formats of the game in August 2017.

Du Plessis made his ODI debut on January 18, 2011 against India and made an unbeaten 60runs. Du Plessis calm and composed approach at the center ensured that he was a perfect fit for international cricket. An orthodox, all-conditions technique and a dogged approach at the crease makes him an asset in the age of T20 cricket.

Du Plessis continued his good form in the World cup, notably steering his side to victory in a high-pressure run chase against eventual world champions, India

Thereafter Du Plessis continued to be an immovable figure in South African line up one of big three (Amla, De Villiers, Faf) most coveted wickets for the opposition. Faf continued to do well across formats especially abroad, in an age of fortress domination.

In December 2012, he was named as the captain of the team for T20’s against New zealand one of his most memorable innings came against India in 2013, when he scored 134 runs off 309 balls however, South Africa fell short of eight runs to acheive the highest ever run chase in test cricket history.

In 2016-17 tour of Australia, he became the second batsman to score a century as a captain in all the three formats.

Du Plessis is the first player to score a century in an innings of a Day/Night Test as Captain. In the same game he set the record for Declaration of the lowest ever total ever as an unbeaten captain , when he remained unbeaten on 118 in South Africa’s first innings score of 259/9 dec.

On February 7 2017, Du Plessis scored 185 runs in the fourth ODI against Sri Lanka, the second highest individual score by a South African just three runs short of Gary Kirsten’s 188*

In March 2019, in the second ODI against Srilanka, Du Plessis scored his 5000th run in Odi cricket.

Du Plessis has been found guilty of ball tampering during his international career. The first time was during the oval Test match in 2013 against Pakistan. In 2016 Du Plessis was caught again ball tampering during the Hobart Test Match against Australia.

Regardless of the denials, du Plessis was found guilty of ball tampering on 21 November 2016. He was subsequently fined 100% of his match fee for the second test against Australia and he has given three dermit points.
